Holocaust Forced Labor eastern workers Russian or Ukrainian OST patch worn labour Ostarbeiter

OST forced labor badge that would have been worn by a forced laborer to identify them as an Ostarbeiter [Worker from the East], usually Russian or Ukrainian, deported to work in Nazi Germany. The patch would have been sewn to the chest with the outer white border visible. After Germany attacked the Soviet Union in the spring of 1941, the need for forced labor to support the war effort became an urgent necessity. Beginning in 1942, millions of forced laborers were deported from the Soviet Union to work in factories and other civilian labor details. They were housed in so-called residence camps that often had barbed wire and SS guards. They were treated as second class citizens and kept separate from the general population. After the war ended in 1945, nearly 6 million eastern workers were repatriated to the Soviet Union where they often were discriminated against and accused of being traitors to their country.

Unique Documents A-Ausweis der ARADO 1940 + Worksheet

A-ID of ARADO Flugzeug-Werke GmbH, Rathenow, for an employee, Antoni Grodzki on November 23, 1940, with a photo, very rare

Heinkel He 177 'Greif' and Focke-Wulf Fw 190 were assembled at the plant in Rathenow

The Arado plants were built on the basis of the Flugzeugbau Friedrichshafen GmbH aviation plant in Warnemünde, which had been operating since 1917. The first main constructor of the plant was Eng. Walter Rethel, who previously worked for Kondor Flugzeugbau and Fokker. The development of the Arado company took place with the takeover of power in Germany by Adolf Hitler. As a result of government subsidies, the plants came under the control of the Reichsluftfahrtministerium (RLM - Reich Ministry of Aviation). The new chief constructor was then Eng. Walter Blume. In September 1934, the company took over the machinery factory in Brandenburg-Neuendorf and launched aviation production there (the first aircraft was produced there on April 1, 1935 [1]). Initially, Arado products were not produced in large quantities, only the Arado Ar 96 training plane and the Arado Ar 196 seaplane were put into mass production. The most famous model of the company is the Arado Ar 234 Blitz reconnaissance and bomber jet. In addition to the production of its own airframes, the Arado plant manufactured under license a large number of aircraft from the following companies: Focke-Wulf (3944 Fw 190), Heinkel (75 He 51, 140 He 59, 100 He 60, 300 He 111 , 716 pcs. He 177), Junkers (Ju 88) and Messerschmitt (Bf 109). At the end of 1944, the company employed 15,786 people (in addition to the parent factories in Warnemünde and Brandenburg-Neuendorf, aircraft factories were also located in Babelsberg, Eger, Rathenow, Wittenberg, Tutow, Anklam and Neubrandenburg), and 16,260 people worked in subcontractors only for the needs of Arado [2]. In 1945, there were several avant-garde planes on the company's design boards, incl. Arado Ar 340 long-range bomber, Arado Ar E 381 missile fighter and tailless planes in the delta system - Arado Ar I and Arado Ar II.
